The greatest gift we can give our children is the assurance of their safety.
The recent loss of three UPSC aspirants in Delhi due to waterlogging is a stark reminder of the vulnerabilities our young minds face. It's a deep-rooted wound that bleeds the dreams of those aspiring to serve our nation. Their lives, brimming with potential, were cruelly cut short due to negligence. The untimely deaths of three UPSC aspirants in Delhi have left me emotionally devastated. These young individuals, brimming with dreams of national development, lost their lives due to sheer negligence. It's a stark reminder that the path to knowledge should never be paved with danger.
This isn't an isolated incident. Gujarat has witnessed similar horrors, where a fire engulfed a coaching institute, claiming innocent lives. These tragedies underscore the urgent need for stringent safety measures in educational institutions, especially coaching centers.
My Personal Work Experience : A Personal Encounter with Risk
My own experience six years ago in Delhi, working with FIITJEE Ltd., exposed me to the alarming reality of unsafe learning environments. The head office at Kalu Sarai, where over 100 faculty members used to sit in Vasista House aka VH, was located in a basement. I often joked darkly that in the event of an earthquake, Forget about Life even the NDRF team might struggle to locate our bodies.
This wasn't unique to FIITJEE. Most buildings in Kalu Sarai, Most of the institutes had basement classrooms. I taught in buildings like Shiksha Bhawan 1, 2, and 3 aka SB1,SB2,SB3 & SB4, all with basement classrooms that posed significant risks in emergencies.
The problem extends beyond Kalu Sarai. Areas like Laxmi Nagar, Ber Sarai, Jia Sarai, Mukherjee Nagar, Rajendra Nagar, and Karol Bagh tell a similar story. Student hygiene and security are severely compromised, with an estimated 90% of classes conducted in basements.
If you're aware of coaching centers in basement facilities or buildings without proper safety measures, speak up. Share this information with local authorities and on social media to create awareness.
While the government collects GST from these institutes, it's crucial they reinvest in safety measures. This could include:
"The light of knowledge must not be overshadowed by the darkness of negligence." - Virgil
As we strive for academic excellence, let's not forget that the safety of our future leaders is paramount. To the families who have lost their precious children in these tragedies, no words can ease your pain. But let their loss be a catalyst for change. Nothing is more important than life itself. It's time we prioritize the safety of our aspiring minds, for they are the true wealth of our nation.
